On Saturday April 26, 2003, about 20-25 scouts and parents from Troop 202 spent the morning sorting food at the Alameda County Food Bank in Oakland. We first viewed a video on the importance of the food provided by the food bank and then listened to the staff on what salvage food items to accept and reject. We then sorted through salvage food that was donated and stocked them on the shelves. Some items from ripped packages were put in the "pig bin". Before we left we cleaned up the areas we worked in. Scouts got to see the operations of the Food Bank first hand and see the importance to the community of the Scout food drive we have in November.
